Custom Anchor Snubber

An anchor snubber is an essential piece of equipment on any boat that has an all chain anchor rode.

Our anchor snubbers are made from 3 strand nylon due to its ability to stretch and absorb shock. One end of the anchor snubber is terminated with a 400mm spliced soft eye for connecting to a bow cleat, the other end terminated with a 316 stainless steel thimble to receive a shackle and anchor chain hook. Thimbles are whipped at the base and shackle pins (if an anchor hook is ordered) are seized with 316 stainless steel wire. 

 

Anchor Snubber VS Anchor Bridle?

An Anchor Snubber is a single line that attaches to one bow cleat, then runs through the bowsprit and connects to the anchor chain. The chain is then let out until it is slack and the weight is transferred from the anchor windlass to the bow cleat via the snubber.

An Anchor Bridle is Y shaped and has 2 legs for connection to both bow cleats or eye hooks on the bow of a catamaran. The other end is terminated with a 316 stainless steel thimble to receive a shackle and anchor chain hook.

Each have their own advantages. An anchor bridle spreads the load to both cleats and helps reduce swing at anchor. Both the anchor bridle and anchor snubber remove the load from the windlass, however a single line snubber still puts pressure on your bow sprit and can be subject to chafe, particularly on stainless steel bow sprits as the boat swings. Both are easy to deploy, however a single line snubber is more cost effective in the short term, lighter and easier to store. 

 

In our opinion, an anchor bridles are still the best choice for longevity of your windlass and passenger comfort when anchored.  ​​ ​
